First Love

“We love Him because He first loved us.” [1 John‬ ‭4:19‬]

When Jesus rebuked the church of Ephesus to “return to their first love”, He isn’t talking about the actions done in love, but returning to the source of love—in Christ alone. Jesus wanted to express His love to them once again and out of receiving His love their ministry will be effective.

We want to love God with all that we’ve got, but maybe one reason that isn’t working out is due to self-creation of that love. We squeeze out whatever love we have left and give it to God. Yet, the Scriptures tell us that we love because He first loved us. We can’t love God perfectly, and He knows, that’s why He chose to love us with all His heart, soul, mind and strength.

Let’s receive His love and out of the overflow love Him, because He first loved us.
